About the group

The Polyquantique research group led by Nicolás Quesada specializes in quantum photonics and quantum information. The group is looking for highly motivated candidates at the Postdoctoral and PhD level with interest and expertise in theoretical quantum optics.

We are a theory group with a significant computational component that collaborates closely with experimental groups and partners in government and industry. We write open source code and do reproducible science.

We are based in beautiful and welcoming Montréal, a safe but never boring city that consistently ranks as the best city in North America to be a student.

As part of a collaborative project with Government and academic laboratories (with actual lasers, crystals and detectors!), we are interested in developing analytical and numerical tools to study optical parametrical amplifiers (OPAs) in the Gaussian (squeezing) and non-Gaussian regime as basic building blocks for quantum communication networks. We hope the selected candidates will join the group in 2026.

Interested in joining —PhD?

We are looking for a candidate who has completed a masters’ degree and has a strong background (as evidenced e.g. coursework or publications) in quantum/nonlinear optics and in scientific computing.

  • Strong research background in Quantum Optics/Quantum Information/Simulation of bosonic many body-systems as demonstrated by publications or dissertation work.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a research team.
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills, with the capacity to learn new methods quickly.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present research results in writing and oral presentations.
  • Motivation to develop an independent research profile while contributing to the goals of the larger project
  • Contribute to the development of new experimental/theoretical/computational approaches.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and external partners.
